For those of you who keep track of these \u201cNational Days,\u201d the day I am writing this, Tuesday, June 23, 2026, is National Let It Go Day. Even though it has passed, read on, because every day should be \u201clet it go\u201d day.\u00a0 \u201cEveryone has probably experienced those different sets of nagging regrets and grudges that tug at their souls for weeks, months or even years. It doesn\u2019t even matter how much time has passed after the people, jobs or situations which once made them important ceased to be part of their life. It can still be so very hard to let go of these things from the past. That is exactly what National Let It Go Day is all about!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A national day when people all over the world can be intentional about taking the brave step to cast away all those hang-ups from a previous chapter in life and start fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a Biblical standpoint, there are many things that we need to let go of. Philippians 3.13, \u201cBrothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.\u201d  <\/strong>Paul was referring not looking back at anything that might distract us from a focus on \u201cthe heavenward call of God in Christ.\u201d The word forgetting<\/em><\/strong> means \u201cdismissing from the mind or paying no attention to.\u201d It carries the idea of ceasing to dwell on something. This is Paul\u2019s way of saying, \u201cDon\u2019t look back! Stop dwelling on the past. Don\u2019t let anything behind you interfere with your present progress or future efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many things we need to let go. We need to let go of our past failures and sins. Once they have been confessed to God, they are forgiven and removed from God\u2019s remembrance. Hebrews 8.12,
\u201cFor I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.\u201d <\/strong>They need to be removed from our remembrance also. We may still be dealing with the consequences of those sins and failures. But we must let go of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to let go of past decisions, especially poor ones. We can\u2019t relive the past. We can\u2019t make those decisions over again. We can learn from them for the future. It is what it is, and we need to trust God in our present situation and rejoice in it. 1 Thessalonians 5.18, \u201cGive thanks in all circumstances; for this is God\u2019s will for you in Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to let go of our bitterness and unforgiveness and forgive as we have been forgiven. Ephesians 4.31, \u201cGet rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.\u201d  <\/strong>Christ followers should neve say, \u201cI will never forgive\u2026\u201d  What if God said that to us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to let go of our past life of sin and follow Christ-like examples of righteousness. James 1.21, \u201cTherefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to let go of our worry and concerns and in trust give them to God to help us. Matthew 6.25, \u201cTherefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So let us, let go of these things! \u201cLet it go, let it go, turn away and slam the door.\u201d \u2013 Elsa from Frozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
