This coming Sunday will be February 2 and is also known as Ground Hog Day.   Here in Pennsylvania of course it is the day that Punxsutawney Phil will or won’t see his shadow. Based upon this there will be six more weeks of winter or not. Phil has been providing predictions since 1886 in Pennsylvania, but has only shown a 39% accuracy nationwide. That’s less accurate than flipping a coin and guessing the outcome.  For many, I hope, it is just a fun day and they don’t really count on the accuracy of Phil.

In my devotion time, I am reading through the Bible chronologically through a Bible app. After reading the book of Genesis, I am now in the book of Job. As a part of the reading yesterday there were verses that reminded me of the sovereign control of God in all aspects of life that included the weather.

Job 5.9-16 “He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. He bestows rain on the earth; he sends water upon the countryside. The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success. He catches the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are swept away. Darkness comes upon them in the daytime; at noon they grope as in the night. He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.

Only God knows the future and is in control of all aspects of life. And so, we must trust in him and him alone. We must rely upon him and seek our leading in all aspects of life from him. It is easy for us to want to rely upon people and other predictors. But God alone is in control. We must seek his will and his leading.
