When it comes to reasons or excuses why people don’t go to church, there are many. And most of us have heard most of those reasons. Maybe even some of us have used some of them in our lifetime. One unknown pastor shared this humorous idea for a special “No Excuse Sunday”

Cots will be placed in the foyer for those who say, “Sunday is my only day to sleep in.”
There will be a special section with lounge chairs for those who feel that our pews are too hard.
Eye drops will be available for those with tired eyes from watching TV late Saturday night.
We will have steel helmets for those who say, “The roof would cave in if I ever came to church.”
Blankets will be furnished for those who think the church is too cold, and fans for those who say it is too hot.
Scorecards will be available for those who wish to list the hypocrites present.
Relatives and friends will be in attendance for those who can’t go to church and cook dinner, too.
We will distribute “Stamp Out Stewardship” buttons for those that feel the church is always asking for money.
One section will be devoted to trees and grass for those who like to seek God in nature.
Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday.
The sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies for those who never have seen the church without them.
We will provide hearing aids for those who can’t hear the preacher and cotton wool for those who think he’s too loud!
Let me first say that there are many who legitimately cannot come to worship on Sunday mornings. Some of you in that category are reading this and I want you to know I appreciate those legitimate reasons. I must also say that there are certain things that maybe we should try to do that will enable people to be able to worship with us on Sunday. But let’s keep it real. The real reason that many people don’t come to church week in and week out, year in and year out, when they could, is that they don’t understand what the church is as the body of Christ and/or they do not have a commitment to Jesus the Christ as the Lord of their life. The Lord Jesus the Christ desires us to worship him and to be in fellowship with other Christ followers. We need to get together for many reasons. Here are 5 reasons with scriptures.
Knowledge of God’s Word – “Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation”— 1 Peter 2.2
Rekindled Worship – “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”—Colossians 3:16
Spiritual Refreshment – “He is like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.”—Psalm 1:3
Comfort and Encouragement – “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”—1 Thessalonians 5:11
Powerful Prayer – “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”—Matthew 18:20
Let’s stop making excuses and gather together for fellowship and worship.
