On our survey on worship, there were some who indicated that they do not worship God throughout the week very much. This may be an accurate assessment. Or it may be that you worship God throughout the week more than you think. And so, in the next two Mid-week Lifts, I am going to share some ways that we can worship throughout the week. I will exalt You, my God and King, and praise Your name forever and ever.  I will praise You every day; yes, I will praise You forever.  (Psalm 145:1-2)

PRAYER –William Krutza in his book, “Prayer: the Vital Link,” wrote that “prayer is natural conversation of a person with God.”  We should talk to God anytime throughout the day about anything that is happening in our lives. This is what Paul meant by “praying without ceasing.” However, it is also good to have a daily time when you sit quietly in prayer. There are two different acronyms that you can use to aid at this time. ACTS – Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication.  PRAY – Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield. Note that both begin with praise to God and repenting or confessing our sins.

BIBLE READING – This one is key and is most important. You may not think of reading the Word as worship, but it is. The Bible is a powerful guide for living. Reading the Bible every day will allow you to better know the God we worship and as we know Him more, we worship Him more because we see all the reasons all worship and praise is due Him.  When you want to draw near to God, pick up your Bible and read passages that talk about who God is.  Read the stories of how He used fallen humans just like us to do great things.  Read about the men and women who went through hard times but were carried through by His compassion.  Acknowledging who He is, is a great way to worship Him!

EXPERIENCING NATURE This will resonate more with those of you who love to be outside working or taking walks and hikes. “Forever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” (Romans 1:20) God reveals himself in nature. When we take time to observe it, we can praise God who created all things, and we stand or walk in awe of Him.

MUSIC- This can include singing, playing, and/or listening to music. I have known people who can’t carry a tune in a bucket, but worship God through listening to Christian music. Whatever genre of Christian music you like, hymns, classical, contemporary praise, or rock, listen and worship God. Remember, the Psalms are lyrics to songs. “Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!  Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.” (Psalm 96:1-2)Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3.16)

FELLOWSHIP –  “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”  (Hebrews 10:25) Participating in fellowship with other Christ followers other than on Sunday morning can be an act of worship as we encourage one another, support one another, eat with one another, study together and simply share the blessings of life that God has given us. We can praise Him for what He’s doing, rejoicing with others in their joy and weeping with those who weep.  (Romans 12:15)
