Aiden Wilson Tozer (April 21, 1897 – May 12, 1963) was an American Christian pastor, author, magazine editor, and spiritual mentor. Tozer hailed from the tiny farming community of La Jose in Western Pennsylvania. He was converted while on his way home from work at a tire company in Akron Ohio. He overheard a street preacher say, “If you don’t know how to be saved … just call on God, saying, ‘Lord, be merciful to me a sinner.'” Upon returning home, he climbed into the attic and heeded the preacher’s advice.
In 1919, five years after his conversion and without formal education in Christian theology, Tozer accepted an offer to serve as pastor of his first church. That began 44 years of ministry associated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), He has been quoted by many over the years. One famous quote is: “Everything is safe which we commit to Him, and nothing is really safe which is not so committed.”
This quote has clear Biblical backing in many verses. Here are just two of them.
Psalm 37:5
“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
The question we must ask is, have we committed everything to God? Have we committed our…
…marriages, children and grandchildren, finances, careers, health, decisions, ministries,
temptations, possessions, future, life, salvation and much more to God.
Anything that we do not commit to God is not safe. This lack of safety causes us to worry, fear and ultimately to go astray. Let us commit everything to God’s safe keeping and help.
