There is always a great spirit during the Christmas season. People are more kind, gentle, polite, friendly, even forgiving. They also are more giving, often to charities and other causes.
But then, for many, it stops and by January 3 (or sooner) they are back to their old ways. This even happens in the church. So how can we make Christmas last. At Christmas time I love to listen to Christmas music by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In one of their songs, they give us a hint about how to make this “Christmas thing” last.
If you want to arrange it, This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this Christmas thing last
By helping a neighbor, Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help you need only just ask
As Christ followers we need to recognize that all of those loving and caring things we do and say at Christmas time are supposed be done all throughout the year as seek to live the Christ-like life. So let this be our prayer.
A CHRISTMAS PRAYER
Father, we thank You for Jesus’ birth,
And for the promise of peace on earth.
We know that this peace can only reign
In the hearts of those who are born again,
Who will give their hearts and lives to the One,
Who was born of a virgin— Your only Son.
We thank You for redemption’s plan,
Which brought salvation down to man.
Lord, speak to our hearts at this Christmastide,
Show us the way to in You abide.
Loving You first, then loving our brother,
Helping and sharing with one another.
May we learn to live as please s You,
Following Jesus in alt that we do.
Not only at Christmas, but all the year through.
And the praise and the glory we give to You.
