Tuesday was known in the church year as Epiphany Day. On this day there are three events in the life of Jesus that are looked at. First is the visit of the Magi from the east who found Jesus in Bethlehem in a house and worshipped him with precious and costly gifts. The second event in Jesus’ life is his baptism which was the inauguration of his ministry. The third event was Jesus’ first miracle which is recorded in John 2.1-11. This is the story of when Jesus transformed water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana.
Many of you will remember that story, but I encourage you to read it again in John 2.1-11. The aspect of that story that I want to consider is the application for us as it relates to transformation. When the wine ran out, Jesus instantly transformed basic, ordinary water into wine. But not any wine, the best wine ever. This is what Jesus has done for everyone who believes in him as their savior. He takes us from ordinary sinners who are in rebellion against God and doomed to eternal punishment in hell, and transforms us into new creations as the sons and daughters of God. We have eternal life and receive the best life ever in our relationship with him.
Here are some of the lyrics of a song written by John Elefonte – “Exit 39”

Just then I noticed a sign It read, “Renew your soul through Jesus at Exit 39.”
I walked through an open door – And I started to listen – And the words cut right through my soul
This was more than religion I saw water changed to wine at Exit 39
I hung around for a while just trying to find some explanation – And then a woman said to me,
“Don’t go searching anymore. Jesus knew that He’d meet you
When you walked through that door today.”
Then I looked back at the sign – It said, “You just gave your life to Jesus at Exit 39.”
And for the first time I can open my eyes – And see what I’ve been missing
All His love and His forgiveness – Was with me all the time
More than just religion – I saw water changed to wine – At Exit 39
I let some time pass me by – I drove up and down that highway – There was no Exit 39
Was it just all in my mind – I believe it wasn’t just a vision – ‘Cause what took place in my heart
Was by faith and not by sight – More than just religion – I saw water changed to wine at Exit 39
Let us praise God for the transformation that he has made in our lives through Christ. In Christ Alone
